The coast of Spain: Europe’s favorite retirement destination

Just like the classic stereotype of Americans retiring to the coast of sunny Florida, Spain is the new Miami when it comes to retirement for European Seniors, particularly those from the United Kingdom and other areas where the weather is somewhat less than temperate.

Spain is a popular retirement destination for many Reasons, but the number one reason why Spain is popular for those entering retirement is the beautiful, warm and relatively dry weather conditions. Spain can see rain as few as ten times a year, and even that is mostly at night. Nice weather is an important consideration for those entering retirement, as they no longer want to deal with the changeable weather they suffered through during most of their adult lives.

Spain is also affordable for those entering Retirement. Many times, there are villas or other community properties that are specifically established to house retirement-aged ex-pats in Spain. These communities take care of food, medical care and more, and are just as affordable, if not more so, than a retirement in one’s own home country.

Furthermore, the purchase of retirement property in Spain can be a very lucrative investment and many people in retirement enjoy the thought of leaving some nice, valuable real estate for their children and grandchildren to enjoy once their inevitable time finally comes. It is very unlikely for a retirement property in Spain to decrease in value.

Another important consideration for retirement in Spain is access to health care and medical attention. Because many people of retirement age will require extensive health care in their golden years, Spain is a great choice for its hospitals and well-trained hospital staff. Although the type and amount of coverage varies from hospital to hospital in Spain, choosing a retirement property close to a highly regarded hospital means that retirees have access to health care that is as good or maybe even better than what was available in their hoe country.

All in all, retirement in Spain is an extremely attractive option for many foreign seniors who want to escape the rat race and bad weather of their home countries.
