If you are planning a ski holiday, there’s no better ski destination than New Zealand. If you are planning a ski holiday, New Zealand will give you a choice of many top-notch ski spots surrounded by some of the most beautiful surroundings in the world. New Zealand also has the advantage of having a completely different ski season than most of the rest of the world (New Zealand’s winter season is June through August).

New Zealand’s ski resorts are located on the South Island of New Zealand. New Zealand also has a longer ski season than many of the ski resorts scattered through out the world – the typical New Zealand ski season starts in June and runs through October. Plan your ski holiday in New Zealand at one of the following resort or ski areas:

Mt. Ruapehu – This ski area is comprised of three volcanic ski areas: Turoa, Wkakapapa, and of course, Mt. Ruapehu. The ski area rests above New Zealand’s first national park (Tongariro). The three amazing live volcanoes (Ruaphehu, Turoa, and Wkakapapa) are generally the heaviest snow area. This is a challenging ski area with some amazing vertical drops. In fact, they are home to New Zealand’s highest vertical drop of over 2300 feet.

Mt. Hutt – This incredibly beautiful ski resort is nestled at the foot of the Southern Alps of New Zealand. This resort is known for having the deepest and driest powdery snow in New Zealand and is usually one of the first ski resorts open each year. This resort is ideal for beginners, but still offers some challenging runs for those willing to take advantage of heliskiing.

Mackenzie Ski Area – Mackenzie is a wonderful ski resort with great views and beautiful blue skies. The ski resort is made up of three main ski areas: Ohau, Round Hill and Mt. Dobson. Mackenzie is about three hours out of Christchurch. This is a great family ski resort.

The Remarkables – This ski area is a great choice for a beginning skier’s holiday. Located near Queenstown, it also offers runs for more advanced skiers.

Whether you are an advanced skier or a novice, you are sure to find wonderful places to ski on you New Zealand holiday. Your trip will require some planning, but you can keep track of ski conditions in advance of your departure date. Plan to spend some time exploring New Zealand in addition to your skiing, and you’ll have a holiday to last a lifetime.
